When the circus comes to town
Everybody gather round
Don’t you want to go
See the fat man and the queen
And the bearded lady sing

When the circus comes to town
Everybody lays it down
Says come on with the show
See the man who eats the flames
And the lady without shame
Tattooed head to toe

Set it up then tear it down
That’s life on the road
The wagon wheels they roll the miles
With the boxes piled high

And the cages hold the eyes
Of the animals that cry

Out of this cage

And the people stare and stop
They throw popcorn, they throw taunts

But the people cannot see
The pain on which they feed

And I am one of those
Whose life is but a joke

So when the circus comes to town
clap your hands and jump around
Let’s get on with the show
Make ‘em laugh and make ‘em scream
Let ‘em cry and let ‘em dream
And they’ll lay down the dough

You should be put away

Why you think it’s such great fun
To look at us then run
