Always Lost (#335)
12/10/13 - FtLd
I was sitting in the house
Of my neighbor down the block
Banging on everything
Trying to make it stop
But the crow and the little girl
Lying in the lane
Only seem to know when
It’s time to come and go again
And have you ever heard
The crying in the rain
And have you ever heard
The whispering of the pain
And you can come and go
Where ever you may want
But how will you ever get there
If you’re always lost
I was sitting in the house
Of a railroad man
Traveling to places
That I never been
But this station it ain’t set in concrete
It’s set in sand
And it always seems to wash away
Whenever it can
And have you ever heard....
I was sitting in the house
The house of god
Listening to the silence in my head
That was too loud
But the angels and the devil
They all hang out in the same saloon
Knocking back shots while
Listening to their favorite tunes
So have you ever heard....

Dear God
08/05/86 - WPB
dear god
please keep the merry men
they understand
what it is we’re fighting for
dear god
please keep the little ones
without them we’ve no one
to hold tomorrow’s guns
dear god
i hope you will let me see
what it’s all for
before you’ve done away with me
dear god
you know i would like to think
there’s some sense
in all this senseless killing
going on round me
dear god
please keep the lovers young
it makes him brave
it makes her wait
until they’ve come undone
dear god
please keep the old men wise
they guide us on to glory
without regard for human life
dear god
it’s taken me a million years to make
and yet within a moment
it can all be blown away
dear god
how could things have come to this
it seems we have so little left
not even common sense
dear god
if you please keep all of these
then maybe there would be no wars
and i could live in peace
dear god
i think you are really mean
to kill me june first sixty-nine
in vietnam

I Had Another Day
06/09/12 - FtLd
Crawling out to see what is what
Everything’s in disarray
And I wonder will it ever stop
Or must I just go away
And I had another day
Yeah I had another day
Can you please tell me
Why I had another day
And the lightening it ignites the spark
That cannot be contained
The explosions leave me fumbling
From the shock that’s deafening
And I had another day
Yeah I had another day
Won’t you please tell me
Why I had another day
And sister Mary’s crumbling
What was now lays in waste
And everyone is mumbling
That someone else must pay
And I had another day
Yeah I had another day
Can you please tell me
Why I had another day

Liquor Lullaby
10/25/11 - FtLd
I’ve traveled all around
Yeah I’ve seen this big old world
Had my share of men and women
Little boys and little girls
Seen what they mean when they say
That this world is surely run by fools
Tried my best to harm no one
Maybe even did some good
I been to Zanzibar
Harlem and old Baghdad
Cried tears in the Amazon
Did window pain along Big Sur
Floated down the Gange’s
With a body by my side
Did time in old San Quentin
Cause someone had to die
But I’m gonna roll these dice
Just one more time my friend
And if I roll snake eyes
Then my luck ain’t on the mend
But no matter if I win or lose
It’s just the way I am
And may the lord strike me with
A lightening bolt if I get it wrong again
Hey, hey, hey (3x)
I struggled in the bowels
Of the brigadier’s saloon
I lifted ten thousand Sherpas
All the way up to the moon
I helped Saint Theresa rob a bank
Down in old Singapore
Then wrote a novel in a day
About a ten dollar whore
I crossed the grand canyon
And ran the great divide
Swam the Mariana trench
And skied Mount Everest’s north side
I was bowling in the hundred’s
And golfing in the teens
I was the hottest and the meanest
Mother you’d ever seen
(chorus)
But the greatest thing I ever did
Was fall in love with you
From the moment that I saw you
There was nothing I could do
You were like a breath of fresh air
In a smoke filled room
You took me by surprise
And then you took me to your room
But I’d give it all back
Just to be with you again
I don’t remember what I said
Or even what I did
Cause the bottle it don’t speak
It just tells you what to do
So I’m sitting here just having
One more drink to you
(chorus)
verse:
C#m - A - F#
22.31.42 - 32.41.52
chorus:
29.38.49.57 (Edim) - A - F#

Talk To A Stranger
02/20/14 - FtLd
The telephone’s ringing
It’s just a wrong number
The mailman is bringing
A fistful (handful) of bother
So it’s Tuesday
What happened to Monday
I can’t find my keys
The car won’t start without ‘em
And the laundromat takes change
But it don’t give no change
My clothes are still dirty
And so is the water
My computer says hello
I say hello
I talk to machines now
If only they’d listen
And the jacks and the aces
All left for the weekend
But never came back when
They found what they been missing
Now the days are outnumbered
By nights with no thunder
The silence it screams out
All of my blunders
And you could have told me
But you did not know me
So why would you bother
Talking to a stranger
The pizza man brings you
Your dinner in cardboard
It tastes just like cardboard
Even if you tip him
And the sheets are all empty
Even when you lay there
It’s just one more nightmare
That you cannot figure
So the telephones ringing
It’s just a wrong number
But if you don’t answer
It’s probably your mudder
verses:
34.45.54 - 35.45.53
45.55.63 - 43.53.61 (or 32.43.53)
47.56.67
break:
verse then
49.57.68 - 28.49.57 - 45.54.65
49.57.68 - 28.49.57
28.36.47 - 47.56.67
end:

This Morning

This Morning
09/04/11 - FtLd
Does everything seem to be so boring
Does everything seem to be the same
If I held out my hand to you as a warning
Would you take it and gently move it out of your way
And I can’t tell you anything that I did this morning
Maybe I’ll wake up later today
24-7 is so annoying
The repetition is never new
And every time before I get to see who is calling
Seems they hang upon me every time too soon
And I can’t tell you anything that I did this morning
Maybe I’ll wake up this afternoon
And if I tried to change my story
Does it matter what ever I should choose
But I will never fight you for the glory
Cause why should anyone ever have to win or lose
And I can’t tell you anything that I did this morning
Not until I wake up from these blues
chords:
34.45.53 - 35.45.53

28.49.57 - 49.57.68 - E7f3 (G7) - Ef3 (G)
